Thanks, Ian.
One of the things that a friend and I were talking about today was how well our community acts out community. The neighbors are all out helping each other shovel the mud out of the driveways etc. We were kind of laughing at one of the newscasters who was reporting from a helicopter and he was expressing shock at how the neighbors were working together to help each other. On the one hand, how wonderful to live in a community like this. On the other hand, what a sad commentary on society today that a newscaster would be so flabbergasted by the sight of true community!
The other thing that has been disturbing was our County Supervisor, who had to use the opportunity to slam the forestry dept, that they didn't do their job with the fires last summer, that led to this. I beg to differ. There could have been so many more homes lost, except for the expertise of our firefighters who put their lives on the line and saved the majority of the homes. There is a time to evaluate procedures and see if there are things that we learn so as to prevent further tragedy. But when you are dealing with a lot of folks at the moment in very difficult circumstances, and now is not the time to do the fingers of blame for purely political purposes. Grrrrrrrr.
