The One who made us knows how we are. God knows how we would operate best. God knows what will give the smoothest operation. God wrote down the instructions, even came and told us in person what sort of actions we are best suited for, and what will make our lives best. When we heed these in structions or obey we reap the benefits of being, and doing, the things that we are created for. Obedience, for the sake of love, and love for the sake of obedience, is in our best interest. When we are obedient we are blessed - through our obedience. Our heavenly parent would never tell us to do something that would hurt us. So when we love, simply because God tells us to love, we are discovering once again how much God loves us. How much simpler could it be? -- Simple until the fact of our willfulness and sinfulness is considered. -- Fisher in TN

Dear DPS'rs, On the Daily Dig for the Bruderhof Community Contact@bruderhof.com there is a wonderful reading by a young man Riedmann, who was imprisoned for his faith in Austria. He writes about Love and Faith and it ties in beautifully, I think, with our readings for the Gospel and the Epistle Readings. Check it out.

Having gleaned from the various resources on this site I tentatively submit the following.

We haven't won the war in Afghanistan. We're still trying to stabilize Iraq. And the war on terrorism has just been raised to a level orange alert. Where are the scenes of celebration like Times Square in May of 1945?

On May 7, 1945, in Reims, France, at 2:41 a.m. local time, German Gen. Alfred Johl signed the unconditional surrender of all German forces, ending the war in Europe. Gen. Dwight Eisenhower accepted the surrender for the Allies. That was a certain victory

President's opposition having a hayday with the lack of decisive victory on any front.

We're looking for a certain victory.

To attain "A Certain Victory" John emphasizes three things we must do.

1. Love - Bolero. Crescendo of instruments repeating the same thing. "Love" used 24 times in the First Letter of John. Twice in the 2nd chapter; 8 times in the 3rd chapter, 12 times in the 4th chapter and twice in the 5th chapter. Love God Love God's children Allen coming home from the Matrix Reloaded--"It's all about love."

2. Believe - Jesus is the "Anointed One" Jesus in the "Son of God"

3. Obey - Obedience completes the work.

We want certain victory. That comes by Loving, Believing and Obeying because Jesus Christ has overcome the world.

Tom in GA, Can you Love on Command? Read your comments earlier this week. I went a little different direction, but today that Question was revisited. Today I went to a matinee... Bruce Almighty... I would reccomend it to any preacher to watch.. It's filled with Biblical Applications and theology...Lot's of Neat Symbolism... Morgan Freeman has basically your Question in one of his lines... Bruce, who has been given a 'share' of God's Power-Only Buffalo, Cause God knew he couldnt handle it all LOL. Jennifer Anison, is Grace , Bruces's Girlfriend... She Left him- She said oh buy me a boat and teo bags of money- not enough to just love you and want kids with you...she leaves...Jim Carey's Character asks Asks, How can you make someone love you??? God, says, How can you, that's a question? Jim Carey says, yeah, the free will thing... So, to use that as teaching tool Can you command someone to love??? FREE WILL, so no!

Other neat Symbolism in this movie, The Holy Trinity illustrated by Janitor character, Electrican and THE BOSS...(Morgan Freeman) As he said he is the one! Grace(Jennifer) had rare type of blood AB-. and in end Jim woke up in Hospital with a blood transfusion AB- in the bag. Yes, Grace was living with bruce hoping for commitment...Bruce not wanting commitment...put out the effort....(this makes me wonder did the writers who Bonhoffer? CHEAP GRACE) Grace isnt cheap...Grace is there, but we have to commit.

My Favorite Scene: Jim's Character in the pouring rain , on his knees, saying take this power back , I surrender to you completely...

That's what we have to do, you know...

So, Bruce Almighty is a sermon , basically Trinity--Grace and blood bought, transformed...

the scene with Jim Carey helping "the Janitor" mop up... The Holy Spirit is out Comforter, sent to encourage and help...not to do work alone...we are called to action... So, we not only Look up, but Look out and go to WORK!
